It's a sad, sad time in Donohue-verse.

If you know me at all, you know that I bleed weird.

From my Buick Electra boat, to my mk2s, to my wagon... I pride myself on quirk... But that's seemingly coming to an end.

I had to sell my 1990 Jetta TD. I live in Eastern Ontario, and it gets batshit ass cold here. Jetta just couldn't hack it without a place to plug in, so she had to go. I figured I could carry the torch by getting into an NG900, a Saab... But I let myself get talked out of it into something more reliable. Something safe. Something beige.

I've put a deposit down on a 2000 Acura 1.6EL.

Where should I mail my card to? :(

Don't get sad. My Euro ass finds nothing special about diesel or Volkswagens.

Well. A 13 year old car is a different animal than a 23 yr old... I need something reliable, hopefully a little fun.

The EL may be the most Canadian car ever. Built in Ontario and not sold outside of Canada.

Not sure you're missing out on too much. Just picked up an NG900 less than two weeks ago. It's "surprisingly sufficient" but I haven't had time to really gel with it yet. Just had it on a 300+ mile road trip and it did well, aside from the shift lever guide plate getting knocked loose again (makes finding 5th gear a bitch) but that took all of 2 minutes to fix at a rest stop.

Hang on to it. We all make decisions in life that aren't the most Jalop. You will need it again.

I was thinking itd be okay and not that bad reliability wise, but a friend arranged the EL deal and its pretty good as far as beige goes. New engine, disc conversion all round, CAI, stainless exhaust, sway bars, new lcas and shocks

Looked up the specs on the 1.6EL... Surprisingly lightweight... How's the engine responsiveness? Easy to match revs (assuming it's stick)?

Yeah, I don't own it yet but by all accounts a decent little motor. 127hp, vtec. Not fast, but it'll do. 5spd

I always find that if it matches revs easily it becomes less of a chore to stir the gears a little extra. I think it's kind of fun extracting the most out of a mediocre car as long as the driver's controls are pleasant to operate. Hope it feels good on the test drive. Good luck.
